EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ, November 30, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maria D. Sakowitz, President and Owner of Nutrition Teaching Tools, LLC / Nutrition Associates of East Brunswick, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in nutrition education.
According to the American Diabetes Association, "25.8 million children and adults in the United States — 8.3 percent of the population — have diabetes." For the past two decades, Ms. Sakowitz has been developing visual teaching tools for combating diabetes while also educating clients on nutrition. Before she became the owner of a nutrition company, she had a private counseling business and created a hands-on nutrition program for her clients called "Weigh To Better Health." She used test tubes filled with sugar for her clients to show them visually just how much sugar they were eating. The results of this 3 month nutrition intervention using my visual teaching tool, SUPER 15 tm were positive and promoted weight loss of most of the individuals. E. Lilly sponsored this program and published the results.
Ms. Sakowitz' professional experience is vast, as she was the director of the Food and Nutrition Department at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey for seven years, following work in several local hospitals and nursing homes. Additionally, in her spare time, she was building her own private counseling practice. A member of the American Diabetes Association and the American Dietetic Association, in 1993, she became a registered dietitian. In addition to becoming a Certified LEAP Therapist to specialize in non-drug related treatment for fibromyalgia, IBS symptoms and migraine through identifying non-IgE food sensitivity testing, she is certified in adult weight management by the American Dietetic Association. She holds several degrees: an associate degree in biology, a bachelor's degree in nutrition from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and a master's degree in science, from UMDNJ, where she also completed an internship. Ms. Sakowitz previously belonged to the American Association of Diabetic Educators for many years and presented the results of her evidenced-based research proving visual teaching tools are superior, especially for multi-cultural clients.
